Spring 2012 Adult Education

Classes for Visitors

First Steps

Second Sunday of every month, after service (1 hour)

You are invited to join us as we gather together to get acquainted with the basics of Unitarian Universalism and our vibrant community. There are many ways to connect with the church and we look forward to discussing the unique opportunities offered by First Unitarian Church of Des Moines.

Pathways

Once a week for 6 weeks (1 1/2 hour per class)

This class explores who we are and what we believe, and provides opportunities for members of our congregation to share with newcomers what it means to be a Unitarian Universalist at First Unitarian. It gives newcomers a chance to examine their own personal stories in light of our Unitarian Universalist tradition and heritage. Whether you are new to the church, or have been coming for a while, this is a great opportunity to learn more about this community.

Session 1: Sunday Mornings, January 22 - February 26, 9:15 - 10:45am
Facilitators: Rob Malcomson and Pam Olund

OR

Session 2: Thursday Evenings, April 5 - May 10, 6:30 - 8:00 pm

Journeys Group

Once a month for 6 months (1 hour per class)

Upon completion of the Pathways Class participants are encouraged to continue meeting once a month for 6 months. Journeys is a way for the group to remain in community together as they explore how to deepen their connection to their new home. The group will gather for a potluck meal and the opportunity to continue the conversation about their spiritual journeys. Opening words and a topic will be provided for each meeting.
