Multiculturalism Study Group
Critical Thinking, Transformative Learning
Our Study Group thinks and talks about race and culture, stimulating critical thinking and transformative learning. Our purpose is not to provide quick answers or solutions. Rather, we aim to expand awareness by becoming better listeners, and by understanding and accepting the experiences of others, especially experiences different from our own. Reading assignments ground our conversations. Understanding and Dismantling Racism by Joseph Brandt (Minneapolis: Fortress Press, 2007) is a recent reading. It is available at the Church bookstore. The group is open to newcomers, who may contact the group's facilitator, Rev. Mark Stringer at minister@ucdsm.org, for a covenant and current reading assignment. We meet at the Church, the third Wednesday of each month, 6:45-8:15 p.m.
