Recognition & Praise
June 2013
The board, staff and councilors of First Unitarian Church would like to send out our thanks to the following folks for their interest in going above and beyond to help make our community a great place to be!
THANKS SO MUCH to...
...the following people for contributing to the Woods Revitalization Work Day on April 6: Nate Hoogeveen (leader/organizer), Diane Ford (leader/organizer), Emma Bruemmer, Lee Searles, Theresa Miller, Charlie Ahern, Bruce Vandegrift, Jane Rider, Tom Thurtell, Dave Witke, Rebekah Samuels, Steve Herwig, Chuck Mertes, David Quinn, Don Godfree, Tori Gibbs, Andrea Quinn, Lois Leonard, and Bill Leonard. Work included sprucing up a wooden pergola into being an inviting outdoor room with a new kids-only entrance to the woods called the "crawl through". It’s then a skip and a hop to a newly hewn, rustic balance beam. People debarked logs, drug out unsightly debris near the church entrance to chip it up, laid woodchips on trails, and took down a large tree of heaven that had been spreading massive amounts of seed.
...Glori Dei Filippone, Maria Filippone, Jon McAlister and his three children, and Roger Lemons for their participation in a Climate Youth Rally sponsored by iMatter Youth on Wednesday, April 17, at the State Capital.
...Jane Rider, Phyllis Briley, Jean Tauber and Bill and Lois Leonard, for their spring clean up in the Memorial Garden.
...the Friday AM Soul Matters group including Maryanne Sobiech, Eileen Lundberg, Margaret Schultz and Ann Mowery for cleaning the kitchen range, refrigerators and the under sink cabinet.
...Jo Fitz and Kathie Karpinen for assisting with the Face2Face gathering.
...Harvey Harrison for leading the Jim Crow Saturday Retreat.
...WiccaCon planning group and Sacred Bridges for leading a successful conference.
...David Quinn and Andrea Quinn for working to develop and organize the Sacred Bridges group.
...Kathie Karpinen and Dave Proudfit for facilitating the Pathways class for visitors.
...Mark Metz and Sue Huber for starting a Des Moines PLFAG group.
